Job Description

Job Summary:

The Cash Transaction Rep, receives payments and allowances and performs data entry of payments, allowances and account adjustments.

Responsibilities:

* Reviews and processes insurance explanation of benefits statements for accuracy. Refers debit/credit balances to collectors and refers credit balances for resolution. Reviews accounts on which credit balances exist and determines reason for the credit balance. Appropriately adjusts the contractual allowance if in error, completes a transfer if a payment was applied to an incorrect account or requests a refund if an overpayment exists.

* Reports recurring insurance payment discrepancies and works with team to resolve. Identifies accounts on which contractual adjustments are incorrect by working the daily credit balance report.

* Reconciles bank deposits to payments entered into the financial system in a timely manner to ensure accurate account data.

* Reviews accounts and responds in a timely manner. Responds to third party inquiries and works to resolve circumstances that create unwarranted debit/credit balances.

* Demonstrates understanding of fundamentals of cash applications and department revenue cycle operations.

* Executes the timely and accurate cash collection, processing, preparation of bank deposits as well as resolution of unidentifiable/unmatched cash transactions and/or receipts.

* Plays a key role in month-end processing and assists with additional research and/or posting as needed to close month properly.

* Monitors the appropriate systems, tools and reports to ensure that assigned electronic remits are accurately posted.

* Ensures the safekeeping and retention of patient valuables and cash receipts.

* Works closely with all internal departments and external facilities and vendors.

* Participates in compliance discussions as required by the organization and attends regular unit meetings.

* Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

* HS or Equivalent

* Two years bookkeeping or related experience. Strong customer focus skills. Healthcare experience preferred.
