Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Understand concepts and approach to extract, load and transform complex data (characterized by type, quality and/or volume) into enterprise systems.

Works with complex (characterized by type, quality and/or volume), and unfamiliar data. Links complex data across different sources and systems.

Develops, implements, and transforms data specifications and requirements into systematized data products.

Ensures data and information are handled in accordance with established governance and best practices.

Leads investigation and resolution efforts for critical/ high impact defects, problems.

Interacts with IT partners and business users independently.

Partners closely with business leadership to ensure continual alignment around the development, maintenance, access, use, security and retention of international data.

Collaborates with information consumers across the organization to ensure that all critical information needs are optimally addressed; trouble-shoot and remediate where necessary. Ensures data and information are handled in accordance with established governance and best practices.

Profiles complex and/or unfamiliar data (characterized by type, quality and/or volume) to determine structure, attributes and relationships.

Uses a broad understanding of information management strategy to provide insights toward maintenance and scalability of key data assets, opportunities for operational efficiencies and adherence to service levels.

Manages data quality issues and remediation of complex issues.

Maintains, aligns and executes complex change management process to address data specific changes.

Manages small portfolio of projects or one large project (multiple processes).

Contributes to efforts to build a robust business glossary, associated metadata, and data lineage, and establish data protection practices.

Provides technical leadership, fosters a team environment, and provides mentorship and feedback to technical resources.

Builds, maintains, and utilizes partnerships across the enterprise.

Ensures customer satisfaction through professional communication, follow-up, and responsiveness to issues.

Shares technical and business knowledge with lower level employees.

Utilizes business knowledge to explain technical activities in business terms.

Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects and/or enhancements.

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies

Advanced knowledge of data tools, techniques, and manipulation preferred.

Examples (but not limited to): Big data and Hadoop platforms and languages - SAS, SQL, QlikView, Big Data technology

Able to expertly assess, design develop, and support applications, systems and solutions to achieve business and/or technical requirements.

Demonstrates technical expertise for multiple languages, applications, systems, technologies, and/or frameworks, and has the ability to influence technical direction or defect resolution.

Job Summary

A great opportunity exists within International Business Intelligence & Analytics for a Director, Data Solutions who will help establish and grow the data management function within our International organization.

The Director, Data Solutions will help direct the data solutions dialogue, collaborating with internal and external business partners around the globe to obtain optimum value-add for the organization, in alignment with Travelers' overarching business objectives, mission and vision. The incumbent will be primarily accountable for sourcing data from a variety of different international sources, assuring it adheres to data quality/security standards to enable consumers to perform core reporting and analytics functions. Incumbents understand the business objectives and use technical knowledge and tools to support creation of a streamlined process relative to international data domains within our iHUB environment. S/he will work closely with business and functional leadership to support the strategic requirements of the business line, consistently and effectively demonstrate an efficiency mindset when implementing or influencing processes, policies, and technology as they apply to our target data architecture, and will ensure adherence to enterprise data governance framework and requirements.

The position is an intermediate level role, requiring solid in previous experience data analysis, reference table management and supporting large data projects.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

2 years of management experience preferred. Thorough understanding of the business functions, processes, and overall business strategies. Thorough Knowledge: Possesses advanced knowledge of subject matter in order to solve unusual as well as common work problems and advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource to organization.

Physical Requirements

Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Business or equivalent education, or 7 years analytics work experience required. 6 years business analysis or analytics experience required. 4 years supporting the development of Business Intelligence solutions required. 2 years in leadership role on projects required.
