Led by our Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Department manages a consolidated investment portfolio of nearly $75 billion and consists of investment professionals focused on portfolio management, risk management, asset management, derivatives, operations, finance and accounting functions.


Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Real Estate within Genworth's Investments team, the individual in this position will play a lead role in overseeing a team of associates responsible for the credit, underwriting, due diligence, and closing of commercial real estate loans for Genworth's investment portfolio. The individual would also serve as a key partner to the Origination team by contributing toward devising and driving originations strategies specifically from a credit perspective. This position is very visible and will partner directly with senior Investments leadership.


* Lead and develop a team of Real Estate associates

* Represent an independent credit view when evaluating proposed real estate transactions

* Recommend structural risk mitigants as needed and balance needs of sound credit with origination goals

* Ensure due diligence and deals are appropriately documented, approved, and closed in a timely and efficient manner

* Provide leadership and guidance on underwriting, closing, and special assets and ensure teams are operating in accordance with Genworth's guidelines and standards

* Identify and drive departmental process improvement initiatives

* Collaborate with the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Loan Portfolio Management team to effectively monitor the CRE portfolio, and proactively address potential credit concerns

* Partner with other teams in Investments on department-wide initiatives and projects


* Bachelor's degree

* Minimum of 10 years of commercial real estate credit and underwriting experience

* Minimum of 3 years of previous management or supervisory experience

* Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

* Strong influencing and leadership skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

* Ability to function independently, successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects, and deliver with a sense of urgency

* Ability to motivate and to manage in order to meet goals

* Ability to work well with all levels of management and staff

* Travel as necessary
