Summary of Position:

The Prepared Foods Manager has the co-responsibility with the store manager to meet monthly, quarterly, or annual sales and profitability goals. The Prepared Foods Manager provides strong day to day leadership of staffing to achieve sales initiatives, merchandising goals, expense control, and overall financial and operational performance of the their department. Provide a safe and compelling shopping experience and working environment for our customers and associates. Drives and models the company's culture of integrity and transparency within the store and the community. Proactively take steps to ensure all associates, including themselves deliver a "wow" shopping experience for the customer.


* The Prepared Foods Manager drives his/her department within the store in meeting the financial targets, objectives, and earning profits.

* Achieves financial objectives by achieving the annual budget; managing expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating timely corrective financial actions.

* The Prepared Foods Manager co-owns with the store manager and/or assistant store manager to drive profitable sales through sufficient inventory for the Prepared Foods Department to avoid "out of stock" situations, while remaining mindful of working capital targets.

* The Prepared Foods Manager must also drive profitable sales by ensuring that inbound merchandise is received properly, invoices are processed and that all store staff are educated and trained on the proper handling and care of merchandise in their department.

* The Prepared Foods Manager is responsible for maintaining overall department conditions. He/she must ensure that their department meets the expectations of the customers and lives up to its predefined brand image.

* Details include but are not limited to; Stocks perishable department; includes presentation of product, facing, filling, and organization of all product items as set by the perishable departments schematics as well as ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.

* Ensures cleanliness of produce aisles, storage area, and work area for safety; includes cleaning of shelves and products, keeping floors free of liquid spills or water, removing hazardous debris from floor and sweeping.

* Maintains an inventory that is seasonal, tasty and visually attractive.

Keeps updated on special produce needs that arise for holidays, as well as trends in cooking and recipes that affect consumer demand.

* Ensures accurate and timely ordering to prevent losses that result from produce that spoils before it can be sold.

* Keeps merchandise clean and fresh so as to meet all health department regulations, pass sanitation inspections and meet company standards.

* Ensures that Prepared Foods Department employees work and operate equipment in a safe manner at all times, complying with OSHA requirements; enforces safety, health, and security rules.

* Ensures weekly flyer ads are in stock and ready for sale during business hours and that product for upcoming ads are ordered, in stock, and available for processing.

* Responds positively to customer's inquiries and assists customers with purchases, information and product selection; requires suggestive selling, cross selling of products, and other sales techniques.

* Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.

* Builds and maintains product displays as directed and coordinates monthly promotion change-overs.

* This includes markets merchandise by applying company programs through advertising, sales promotion, and display plans.

* Participates in monthly inventory; ensures accurate accounting for all products.

* Coordinates with our merchandising team and marketing team in the support office all marketing opportunities for Natural Living such as lectures and health fairs at the store level.

* Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation. Maintains the stability and reputation of the department by complying with all legal, regulatory and company requirements.

* Administers pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; authorizing clearance sales within company guidelines for their department; studying trends; and understanding competitive pricing pressure.

* Help supports department staff by participating in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training associates.

* Maintains department staff job results by coaching, counseling, and co-disciplining associates; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results with the assistant store manager and Store Manager.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
