As a Server you'll be responsible for setting up and maintaining all dining areas. Take food and beverage orders, retrieve and serve alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and food orders to guest tables according to Barnes & Noble specifications, courteously and efficiently. Collect payments. Assist in the maintenance of all service areas and equipment. Server will work in either the restaurant or private dining area. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages 1 year(s) experience as a Server Food handling certificate Fluency in English both verbal and non-verbal Provide legible communication Compute basic arithmetic Ability to: perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy perform job functions under variable working conditions (example: heat or cold) prioritize and organize tasks be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment follow directions and recipes thoroughly understand guest's service needs work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team work with minimal supervision function with high degree of accuracy with cash transactions and payment of checks maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent recipe data Certification in an alcohol awareness program Previous guest relations training in a fine dining or upscale atmosphere Ability to suggestively sell PHYSICAL ABILITIES Exert physical effort in transporting up to ___ pounds Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas Remain in stationary position for extended periods of time up to 8 hours throughout work shift Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; use equipment only as intended Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day Maintain positive guest relations at all times Be familiar with local attractions/activities/book events to respond to guest inquiries accurately Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas Ability to input and access information in the Point-of-Sale system with high degree of accuracy Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections available in the assigned outlet Maintain knowledge of the particular characteristics and description of every wine/champagne by the glass and beers offered Maintain complete knowledge of designated glassware, ingredients, preparation method and garnishes for each drink Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving Maintain complete knowledge of table/seat/station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, menus, price range and dress code Barnes & Noble is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and is committed to providing employment opportunities to minorities, females, veterans, and disabled individuals, as well as other protected groups.
