Position Overview

The Retail Account Manager (RAM) is the primary C&S representative responsible for managing an annual $250+ million book of business for C&S Independent Customers. This is a high visibility position within the C&S Independent Sales Organization requiring direct interface with retail owners/management as well as a wide spectrum of C&S support departments. The Retail Account Manager needs to be able to develop the trust and confidence of the retail customer as the industry expert representing C&S. The position will require the understanding of retail operations and profitability as well as wholesale operations and profitability.

As a 100% RAM Road Warrior, you will be working out of your home office. Responsibilities in the following locations: Connecticut and the Greater New York City area with potential in neighboring states, but is subject to change as needed. The optimum location for residence is Southwestern Connecticut for example Stamford, CT. The position will be field based with occasional visits to the Keene HQ or other facilities.


* Maximize sales with existing customers of C&S product and marketing/merchandising programs.

* Be the advocate and advisor for the retailer while selling and supporting C&S programs in a profitable fashion.

* Source additional customer base and new business growth development within the assigned region working in conjunction with the New Business Team.

* Conduct business reviews, evaluation and analysis of sales trends and opportunities and development of proposals in conjunction with various C&S departments to capture missing sales.

* Travel to include individual store and HQ accounts on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule.

* Assist Independent owners with total remodels to include floor plan development, merchandising development and marketing / promotional development along with equipment updates supporting C&S Store development

* Work in conjunction with the C&S Category Management team to coordinate resets and retags.

* Assist in resolving credit issues among assigned retailers and accounts receivables.

* Counsel retailers on the control of operating expenses, including payroll, inventory control, utilities, capital expenditures, and gross profit.

* Coordinate and implement the startup of new customers to C&S.

* Be the primary issue escalation beyond customer service for issue resolution for the customer.

* Travel up to 100%, with the potential for multiple overnights weekly.

* Assistance in any departmental project as needed.

* Participation in industry trade groups as a representative of C&S through attendance of regular meeting and events.

* Weekend availability for issue resolution escalated past customer service.

* On occasion the RAM and the field team may be required, in the event of a retailer default, to take over and run retail with direction from C&S Legal) in a close out/going out of business sale for the recovery of company collateral.


* Highly preferred professional fluency in Spanish and English

* Retail management experience across multiple departments with a solid understanding of retail operations, merchandising, pricing and profitability.

* A four year degree is preferred but not required with relative industry experience.

* Wholesale grocery experience.

* Professional usage of MS Office Suite
