COMPANY OVERVIEW: Job Corps is a government-funded, no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps socioeconomically disadvantaged youth between the ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through academic and career technical training. HOURS : On-Call Monday thru Friday 7:45am - 3:45pm with 1 hour lunch to cover staff absences JOB SUMMARY: Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject areas DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to insure maximum student motivation 2. Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning 3. Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport 4. Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available 5. Responsible for the maintenance of student personnel folders 6. Records and forwards daily attendance to the Student Records area REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: ACADEMIC INSTRUCTORS MUST HAVE STATE CERTIFICATION. Minimum: State certified, licensed or accredited by a professional trade organization. No teaching experience required, however, if candidate is not state certified he/she must have practical experience in the subject/trade area. Must have the ability to transfer topical knowledge to meet specific learning objectives Preferred: Extensive practical knowledge of trade and teaching experience General Information: In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, candidate must be able to compose/write descriptive reports; use appropriate techniques to implement programmatic activities; verbally direct individuals and groups; remedy dysfunctional behavior; intervene with students in crisis with aggression control/safe physical management restraint techniques; successfully complete mandated training courses. Knowledge Required: Knowledge of methods needed to instill appropriate behavior as well as work and study habits in adolescent students; of housekeeping techniques and management; to read, comprehend, interpret, communicate and execute instructions or directives fluently in English.
