About the Opportunity The Primary Care / Substance Abuse department of a premier outpatient program located in New York City is actively seeking a compassionate and dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a promising opportunity on their staff. Company Description Outpatient Program Job Description The Primary Care / Substance Abuse Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (PA / NP) will: * Conduct admission and annual physicals for MMTP patients * Provide medical supervision of patients in the Chemical Dependency Program * Prescribe and monitor opiate replacement (methadone) therapy * Provide ongoing primary care for all patients, including HIV and hepatitis care * Actively participate in all treatment team activities * Utilize good communication skills, verbal and written * Exercise good physical diagnosis skills * Make appropriate assessments and treatment plans for patient problems * Provide patient education specific to patient's assessed needs, abilities and readiness to learn Required Skills * Active New York State Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license (Advanced or Family Nure Practitioners) * Prior experience with substance abuse patients * Comfortable completing primary care visits * Strong knowledge of general internal medicine, HIV medicine, Hepatitis and liver disease, and addiction medicine * Possess and demonstrate age-specific knowledge in treating patients * Understands impact of culture on health and disease and medical treatment * Ability to recognize signs of physical or sexual abuse and intervene appropriately
