The Senior/Director of Research within the JDRF research department is a newly created scientific leadership position designed to drive the successful execution of JDRF's strategic research plan for accelerating the development and delivery of transformative treatments - drugs and devices - for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
The Senior/Director is expected to deliver on all activities associated with the clinical translation of promising leads.
The candidate is expected to possess the skills, vision and desire to explore and implement new approaches that will not only accelerate the science leading to improved treatments for those with T1D but develop plans for translation of scientific discoveries across subsequent stages of the pharmaceutical and medical development and delivery pipeline.
The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical drug and/or device development, a deep understanding of the current competitive therapeutic landscape and have demonstrated experience in managing direct reports and project teams.
Background in diabetes research and/or medical device development is a plus.
Examples of research priority areas will include, but not be limited to, development of automated closed loop artificial pancreas systems, components for implantable closed loop systems, novel insulins and other therapies for adjunctive use, label expansion of therapies for T1D, drug based approaches for the prevention of hypoglycemia, and others. Collectively, such therapies would lead to safe and improved glycemic and metabolic outcomes in people with T1D while reducing disease burden - thus delivering on the organizational mission and getting us closer to the vision of a world without T1D.

• M.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent degree required preferably in Medical Devices, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or Endocrinology
•7-10 years of clinical development experience within the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry, CRO, health-related consulting company, or biomedical/clinical experience within academia (or a combination of afore-mentioned).
•Proven ability to work in cross-functional and cross regional lean/"virtual' outsourced teams and deliver results
•Proven ability to understand the market and unmet medical need for disease areas and to develop specific clinical development plans
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully influence internal and external stakeholders, including outside development partners
•Proven organizational skills and managing project teams
•Distinctive ability to engage in discourse on innovative drug/device development from early through to late-stage development, knowledge of regulatory requirements and competitive landscape
•Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
•Scientific and/or medical knowledge of diabetes desired
•Regular and meaningful in person presence at JDRF's New York City offices
•Demonstration of skills to interface with all levels of personnel, volunteers, and outside organizations.
