The Financial Risk Actuary assists the Chief Risk Officer, U.S. Retirement in providing effective review and challenge to the Legal and General Retirement America (LGRA) business related to its financial risks, including actuarial, investment, market, liquidity and credit risks. The Financial Risk Actuary will contribute to the maintenance of an effective risk control and governance framework, and ensure that the LGRA risk appetite is appropriately defined and adherence is correctly measured. The role requires close collaboration with the LGRA Pricing, Finance, and Investment teams.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform timely and effective review and challenge of pension risk transfer (PRT) pricing bids, evaluating judgments made about the longevity, policyholder behavioral and investment risks related to the bids. Perform periodic in-depth reviews of the pricing and portfolio construction models.
  • Contribute to the development, use and oversight of the Group's capital models, ensuring that risks are identified and modeled appropriately. Provide advice on the formulation of calculation methodology and parameters.
  • Perform review and challenge of asset/liability management methods and analytics used in support of portfolio rebalancing.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the LGRA Pricing, Finance and Investment teams, and promote open and honest dialogue within the business to ensure early and appropriate engagement between first and second lines to enable LGRA to meet its business objectives.
  • Play an active part in working with the United Kingdom-based parent risk teams (Legal and General Retirement and Legal and General Group) to share information and experience and develop the aims of good risk management practice across Legal and General.


BA in mathematics/economics/finance or related field required; FSA or other actuarial qualification required; CFA preferred.

  • 10+ years insurance company experience, including experience in different business or technical functions; solid actuarial background, including pricing, finance and investments is critical.
  • Experience in risk management with direct experience in PRT/payout annuities preferable.
  • Strong knowledge of economic capital frameworks, risk based capital, and asset/liability management.

  • Ability to think strategically and executing tactically to meet aggressive deal structuring time frames
  • Experience influencing in a matrix oriented environment with multiple stake holders and team members
