Under the direction of the Program Manager for Critical Care Transport and the EMSC for Children (EMSC) grant Investigators (medical directors), the EMSC coordinator will provide direction and engage stakeholders in diverse activities as described below. The primary role of the EMSC Community Coordinator is to organize and manage all aspects of the EMSC State Partnership program to ensure that the emergency care needs of ill and injured infants and children are well integrated throughout the entire continuum of care; from illness and injury prevention to bystander care, dispatch, pre-hospital EMS care, definitive hospital care, rehabilitation, and return to community. This individual will be engaged in EMSC initiatives and program development for multiple levels of learners including physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, RT and nurse practitioners at a national level (such as the pediatric readiness project), at the state level (such as facility designation efforts and development of protocols), and at the regional and local level. To ensure the success of this program he/she will develop and sustain relationships with stakeholders from across the continuum of emergency services provided to ill and injured children throughout the state of CT. Examples of responsibilities with these individuals/areas of practice include assisting with the provision of pediatric specific continuing education and dissemination of information regarding changes in policies/protocols. The stakeholders he/she will work with include but are not limited to the following groups: Areas of practice: bystanders, primary care offices, schools, EMS dispatch, EMS providers, Urgent Care Centers, General Hospital Emergency Departments, Children's Hospital Emergency Departments, In-patient Units and Rehabilitation Centers Professional groups: BLS/ALS providers, RNs, Paramedics, MDs, APPs,Technicians, Social Workers, Fire, Police, and Mental Health Workers

Responsibilities
  • 1. Roles and Responsibilities:
  • 1.1 Coordinate and manage all aspects of the CT EMSC program and serve as the leading champion for pediatric emergency care throughout the state.
  • 2. Program Planning/Needs Assessment:
  • 2.1 Assess emergency care needs of ill and injured infants and children within Connecticut utilizing data (state and local sources), feedback from stakeholders, guidance from the EMSC Advisory Committee, and model programs developed by others.
  • 3. Implementation:
  • 3.1 Ensure that EMSC performance measure program activities are on track and that targets of implementation are met. These will be reviewed with the CT EMSC team on a monthly basis. The measures provide an ongoing and systematic process for tracking progress and identify areas to focus on for performance improvement. This will allow the CT EMSC state program team to demonstrate its effectiveness to HRSA and stakeholders. Additionally the program will report on five of the 41 MCHB grant performance measures and provide annual objectives and report the indicators against these objectives in their performance report.
  • 4. Data Collection/Program Evaluation:
  • 4.1 Develop a strategic data collection and monitoring plan for key performance metrics in our state.
  • 5. Partnerships and collaborations:
  • 5.1 Develop and maintain partnerships and collaborations to improve pediatric emergency education, research, and patient care with the stakeholders listed above.
  • 6. Education/Simulation responsibilities:
  • 6.1 Responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational needs for EMSC grant work and to assist the program manager for the Critical Care Transport team education/simulation training.
  • Qualifications EDUCATION

    Registered nurse with a current license in the State of Connecticut. BSN required, Masters preferred

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum of five (5) years experience of working in emergency care (pediatrics preferred), and/or critical care. Prior experience with program development, research including data entry and presentation of findings is preferred. Experience in healthcare provider education and/or quality improvement required.

    SPECIAL SKILLS

    Experience with program development and management. Familiarity with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response and patient care. Excellent communication, and organizational skills. Excellent clinical judgment. Competence with computer software applications and related presentation software. Knowledgeable in data management, and database development. Adaptability to a wide variety of professional interactions. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND

    Hours and Travel Part time (24 Hours) with flexibility to increase A balance of work across the diverse areas of practice: primary care offices, schools, EMS dispatch, EMS providers, Urgent Care Centers, General Hospital Emergency Departments, Children?s Hospital Emergency Departments, In-patient Units and Rehabilitation Centers On average two days per week will be spent in one of the community settings described above interacting with front line providers. Out of state travel required [TWICE A YEAR FOR 4 DAYS AT A TIME to the EMSC national meeting]. All travel expenses will be reimbursed per grant guidelines. In-state travel will be required: Site visits to each of the 32 emergency departments in the state of CT annually Coordination with community sites on pediatric training and equipment needs with visits as needed to optimize preparedness. Conference calls with each of the EDs in the state quarterly. State EMSC conference annually. This position is co-terminus with grant funding.
