* POSITION SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Director for Practice Administration and to the Practice Team Leader. The Office Assistant provides clerical assistance to the physician, mid-level provider and front office staff. The office assistant works with the provider's schedules to ensure efficient patient flow.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

* Minimum High School Education.

EXPERIENCE

* Medical office experience strongly preferred.

* Medical terminology strongly preferred.

COMPETENCIES

* Some knowledge of computer scheduling systems, preferably Meditech and Ntierprise.

* Good customer service and interpersonal skills.

Job-Specific Competency1. Performs front desk duties including but not limited to patient check-in, demographic / insurance verification. Scan insurance cards and license.2. Answers telephones and schedules appointments. Takes and relates accurate messages.3. Prepares charts for providers. Consistently maintains charts and updates patient information. Print labels for new patient charts.4. Maintain provider / patient information log(s) as requested by ECHN management.5. Co-pay collection is accurate and properly documented.6. Assist with filing, faxing, chart copying and misc. paperwork when needed.7. Review encounter forms for accurate and complete information.8. Accurately process referrals. Assist with scheduling ancillary testing for patients. Obtain appropriate authorizations for any necessary service(s).9. Performs other duties, as assigned, in order to promote efficient functioning of the department.
