12 Month Benefits Specialist / Grade 5


This is a key position in the Human Resources Department with a wide range of duties including:

* Budgeting, tracking, analyzing and helping to manage the programs offered and the costs associated with employees benefits for the Cheshire Public Schools.

* Maintaining records of all active and retired bargaining unit employee group insurance programs.

* Performing liaison and intermediary services between employees, units, and insurance carriers.

* Providing insurance and benefits information to newly hired employees.

* Assisting employees, retirees and spouses by providing general information, application and claim assistance on insurance programs.

* Recording personnel changes in central personnel files and adjusts employee records for insurance coverage.

* Notifying employees and retirees of insurance rate changes.

* Regularly updating benefits and pension records to reflect individual or group changes.

* Keeping abreast of new laws and assists in implementing changes to remain in compliance with changing requirements.

* Assisting the Payroll Supervisor in processing bi-weekly payroll, maintaining monthly records of Tax Shelter Annuities, personnel records and teacher retirement records.

* Special projects, assignments and duties related to benefits and human resources as assigned by the Human Resources Manager.

A minimum of three years of employee benefits experience including medical, workers compensation, retirement, new employee on-boarding and payroll processing knowledge is desired. Excellent people skills with strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have good analytical skills, adept with using technology and computer software including Excel and Munis and the ability to independently carry out special projects and programs and to make sound judgment calls within assigned area of responsibility. Solid working knowledge of benefits and human resources laws and regulations. An Associates Degree or higher is preferred.
