Our Medical Device client is seeking an entry level Microbiologist for a 1 year contract position in North Haven, CT. This position will be responsible for conducting various tests to ensure the sterility of the medical devices verified through direct testing and environmental monitoring. Working individually and as part of the Biological Services Department this position will:

* Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and gain certification through on the job training from team leader. Perform product sterilization reviews on different sterilization cycles, from both in-house and contract sterilizers.

* Improve SOPs by making suggestions and recommendations as appropriate.

* Once certified, test products and waters for endotoxin levels and microbial growth, perform indicator testing, environmental monitoring and compressed air testing, bioburden testing. and sterility testing

* Document gauge readings and environmental trend reviews for manufacturing areas and testing rooms within the laboratory.

* Prepare media and clean laboratory sterility suites, perform microbial identification for positive test results.

* Utilize the depyrogenating oven, autoclaves, and other equipment in the laboratory for instrument, glassware, gown, and microbiological trash sterilization.

* Prepare reports for the North Haven Campus monthly environmental testing.

* Perform regular laboratory maintenance and monitoring (water bath, disinfectants, ordering, sterility suites, etc.)

* Schedule and perform monthly, quarterly, and annual testing (Gowning water, HEPA, Lab / Safety audit, coordination of instrument calibration, etc.).

* Provide assistance to the Laboratory Supervisor and other Biologists with department testing and/or paperwork.


* Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.


Education required/ preferred:

* BS Degree in Science (Biology related)

Experience: College biology courses/laboratory - MICROBIOLOGY LAB REQUIRED.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

* Aseptic Technique, Comfort with using repeater and mechanical pipetters


* Listening; Written and Oral Communication, Organized, Time Management


The Biologist position reports directly to the Laboratory Supervisor. The Biologist will have frequent contact with other Biologists, Coordinators, Specialists and Project Managers within the Biologist Services Department. At times, they will also have contact with the Facilities Department to conduct testing and/or address issues within and outside of the laboratory. The work performed by the Biologist 1 will directly affect both corporate and divisional functions in a work related capacity.


The Biologist position will be exposed to the following work environments:

* Office and controlled environmental laboratory/manufacturing conditions, some warehouse environment, some work with the sterilization department, exposure to sterilized product, minimal lifting, and working with microorganisms.
