Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking a Supervisor Patent Paralegal who will manage and oversee all patent paralegal activities at Regeneron. The paralegal will be responsible for setting up procedures and templates as well as establishing a group capable of handling an extensive and growing global patent docket.

The paralegal will also advise on emerging administrative issues relating to patent prosecution and will be expected to work closely with an active group of patent attorneys/agents and interact with outside legal counsel as well as other legal groups in the Law Department. In addition, the paralegal will be expected to contribute to administrative projects intended to develop an IP Department displaying the highest legal and ethical standards.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Managing filing logistics for any new patent applications.

• Filing formal documents with respective patent offices and obtaining all necessary signatures and other information for such filings (Powers of Attorney, Assignments, Declarations, Responses to Notices to File Missing Parts, Information Disclosure Statements, etc.).

• Regularly interacting with respective patent offices and outside legal counsel.

• Preparing, distributing and updating docket reports for attorneys/agents on a weekly basis or as requested.

• Maintaining outside legal counsel guidelines.

• Coordinating and confirming maintenance fee and annuity payments with CPI and outside counsel.

• Maintaining and updating Invention Report database.

• Coordinating functions with the IP docketing group.

• Providing occasional backup assistance for clerical/administrative tasks as needed.

• Developing best practices and internal SOPs for ensuring a high functioning IP Department.

• Managing internal and external resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities.


Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree and 8 + years of US and foreign patent paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house patent department, biotech experience a plus.

• Experience managing other paralegals.

• Paralegal certification.

Essential skills:

• Exceptional organizational skills sufficient to manage an extensive and growing IP portfolio.

• Exceptional communication skills, including interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution.

• Ability to independently oversee paralegal matters, manage the use of resources and work collaboratively with other personnel at Regeneron.

• Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex paralegal matters and see projects through to conclusion.

• Familiar with the Anaqua??? IP management system- candidates who are unfamiliar with Anaqua??? but willing to learn will be considered.

• Familiar with the USPTO website and other patent internet sites and tools.

• Experience with Microsoft Office???, especially Excel???, is required.
