Position Summary

Alexion is seeking a highly qualified and experienced employment and litigation paralegal to be based in Alexion's headquarters in New Haven. The successful candidate must have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of quality. He or she also must possess high learning agility and be comfortable taking on projects outside his/her areas of expertise. This paralegal will support employment law, business immigration, internal investigations, government investigations and litigation, and will work with clients, Legal Department colleagues and outside counsel across multiple geographies and functional areas. The position is an exciting opportunity to join an evolving and expanding Legal Department working in a growing global business.

Principal Responsibilities

* The employment and litigation paralegal will be responsible for a variety of activities, including:

* Organizing and coordinating document production and compliance with document preservation requirements and electronic discovery obligations related to government investigations and litigation.

* Working with in-house and outside counsel in preparing draft pleadings, discovery and public records requests, affidavits, deposition summaries, and litigation-related correspondence.

* Monitoring pending litigation matters and investigations and initiating action to ensure that pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, insurance notifications and other legal documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines.

* Supporting in-house and outside counsel in scheduling and coordinating interviews of Company personnel.

* Drafting and monitoring employment agreements and contingent workforce agreements; creating and maintaining databases of employment related templates, contracts and other documents.

* Compiling information and preparing documents related to business immigration matters, collaborating with outside immigration counsel and tracking ongoing immigration cases.

* Compiling information for required submissions to federal and state departments of labor, OFCCP and other government agencies and performing related recordkeeping in collaboration with Alexion Human Resources.

* Monitoring compliance with company policies and protocols.

* Assisting with internal investigations related to human resources and compliance matters.

* Tracking, calendaring and maintaining deadline-driven documents.

* Other special projects as needed or assigned.


* At least 5 years of experience with a reputable, highly rated law firm, and/or in-house legal department, preferably with a multinational company, or a combination of both.

* Experience with complex litigation and/or government investigations.

* Experience with electronic discovery and e-discovery platforms.

* Familiarity with U.S. federal and state employment and immigration laws strongly preferred.

* Ability to perform basic legal research, review and interpret contracts and summarize legal documents.

* Expert level strength in MS-Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint and records management tools.

* Strong written and oral communication skills.

* Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Exceptional multi-tasking skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; ability to execute routine work independently.

* Passion and commitment to profession.

* Proven record of high integrity.


* Bachelor's degree.

* Paralegal certification preferred.
