Position Title: Director of Accounting

Reports to Position: CFO

Company Overview:
Our client was formed in 2013 and organized to acquire interests in insurance companies and other assets within the financial service sector. Our client' s seasoned management team has over 25 years of insurance and investment experience. The founders worked together at Swiss Reinsurance Company from 1996-2010 where they managed billions of dollars of insurance related funding and structured product exposure.

Our client currently owns four insurance companies.

Due to growth, our client is looking for a Director of Accounting to join the team.

Pleasantville, NY (Westchester Office) or Manhattan, NY (Wall Street Office)


This position is responsible for preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual statutory financial statements; preparation and review of supporting detail of the statements; and other accounting functions as necessary. The position will also be responsible for the implementation of a new General Ledger Software and consolidation reporting for all Holding Company (re)insurance subsidiaries The position will be highly visible in the organization and interact heavily with Senior Management.

Essential Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

1. Manage preparation of quarterly and annual regulatory filings including statutory statements.
2. Prepare various monthly financial and management reports.
3. Maintain and prepare various journal entries and account reconciliations as required.
4. Review ceded and assumed contracts
5. Prepare and/or verify quarterly management financial statements.
6. Prepare periodic budgeting support documents and reports.
7. Manage filing of state premium taxes.
8. Coordinate with Accounts Payable Accountant in preparation and filing of 1099s
9. Prepare requested support and provide assistance in various audits (Outside CPAs, Sales & Use Tax, 401(k), Workers Compensation).
10. Prepare responses to state regulatory inquiries and requests for financial information as necessary. Coordinate with and assist state examiners in audits and reviews of the Company' s statutory filings.
11. Assist in the installation, ongoing design and maintenance of the Company' s accounting system, and in the transition of accounting processes and transactions to a new General Ledger accounting suite at the Holding Company
12. Provide reporting, decision and planning support as needed to the CFO and other executive management.
13. Participate in the design, documentation (and maintenance thereof) and consistent execution of internal controls as part of the Company' s commitment to best practice management and corporate governance.
14. Handle confidential information and abide by HIPAA privacy laws.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Advanced computer knowledge including, but not limited to, MS office products.
2. Strong math skills.
3. Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details.
4. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality with all information received.
5. Ability to work independently to carry out assignments.

Education, Training and Experience:
1. Bachelor' s degree in accounting required.
2. CPA or CMA designation required.
3. 5-8 years experience in Insurance Accounting (STAT and/or GAAP)
