Job Description:

EHS SpecialistNear North Haven CT Reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for supporting EHS at our client's premier Chemical Manufacturing plant. This site is growing and the EHS Manager has been given approval to hire someone who will work toward continuous improvement in HSE, assist with environmental permitting, and train employees on-site. You'll be part of an enthusiastic and hardworking plant technical team. In a nut shell, the EHS Specialist will contribute toward compliance with applicable environmental, health & safety, and transportation regulations through EHS program modifications, employee training, permitting, auditing, hazard, job task analysis and root cause incident investigation on a site that operates 5 days per week. This is a day work professional position. This person will also interact with government agencies and supports industrial hygiene monitoring. Please send your resume for consideration.Responsibilities include: Environmental permitting and reporting: air, waste, water etc - federal and state regulation; spill reports; acts as the liaison with regulatory agencies Initiate ongoing improvements to the Environmental Management System and the Process Safety Management System including programs related to EHS culture excellence Acting Site Safety Officer (incident command) when the EHS Manager is away. Train Employees to ensure compliance with all OSHA policy and all EPA, state and federal regulations; develops training materials Hazardous waste management (RCRA trained) Provide expertise regarding shipping regulations - US DOT, IATA and IMDG hazardous materials transportation regulations, carrier requirements (e.g., FedEx) and their impact to the company (Successfully complete DOT, IATA and IMDG HAZMAT training.) Maintain, track and report chemical usage, emissions, and compliance with Federal and State regulations Completes hazardous assessments of raw materials and products. Provide EHS subject matter expertise on-site and at regional sister site. Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Conduct routine safety observations and audits for unsafe conditions and regulatory compliance Stay abreast of applicable regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT, CT, NY and local regulation) Assist in the oversight of the Worker's Compensation program. QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree - Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Occupational & Industrial Safety, or related field 2+ years of EHS experience at a chemical manufacturing facility Expertise with OSHA regulation, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental Affairs ( air, water, land and waste) Has worked on a site that must comply with OSHA PSM policies and procedures Understands basic chemistry Capable of wearing SCBA.
