Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE The Staff Accountant is a key position within our organization and will support the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting department. The successful candidate will need to be effective and experienced in the general accounting function. The position requires solid accounting experience combined with strong analytical skill.Through proactive involvement, this position insures the timely completion of cash management reporting including cash account reconciliations, AR and cash roll forwards, Asset ratio reporting, inventory analysis, maintain fixed assets and associated depreciation schedules, review and resolution of variances. This position will also support the development and maintenance of product costs as well as assuring the accuracy of inventory valuations. The Staff Accountant will work with the management team on various other projects and assignments to improve the overall operational effectiveness and efficiencies within the organizationPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare and distribute the daily cash and AR roll forward results, participate in the monthly closing and account reconciliations, AR, and various month-end close duties. Investigate and determine resolution to significant variances and provide recommendations to department supervisors and senior management as to cause. Review of financial statements and maintain General ledger for a diverse mix of business entities. Accumulate production information from various product managers for the preparation of various schedules and reports. Maintain the Daily Cash and Accounts Receivable roll forward analysis, Asset Ratio report, and other daily reporting.Monthly closing entries and preparation of various balance sheet account reconciliations.Perform the processing of monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciationadditions/disposals and expense, and recording of journal entries.Support with year-end financial statement audits/reviews.Assist with the implementation of initiatives to improve and optimize the accounting close process.Continuously review BOMs to ensure the accuracy of inventory and yield results.Assist with ad hoc analysis and reporting as assigned by supervisor.Develop and implement process improvements and enhancements within the financial/accounting environment to streamline tasks.Cross train in other areas within the financial group and provide backup support as needed.Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED A Bachelors degree in accounting, or a Bachelors degree in business with an emphasis in accounting, is required.Strong understanding of general ledger reporting. Good understanding of production operations and inventory control. Good understanding of the relationship between information flow, the general ledger and relational database information system (ProducePro) used by the company.Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and financial reports.Excellent written and verbal communications skills (e.g., writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals effectively presenting information and respond to questions from groups of managers and explaining complex financial concepts and procedures to other members of the accounting department).Must have strong reasoning skills in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in financial form and be able deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to influence and a willingness to work in a team environment.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other network based systems.Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.A minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting is required.WORKING CONDITIONS Well-ventilated modern office with occasional trips to the production or warehouse environment as necessary.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BS, BA degree in Accounting / Finance with 5 years work experience. Manufacturing experience preferred with general accounting and cost accounting knowledge and theory required. Strong teamwork, multi-tasking and analytical skills required. Ability to communicate within different levels of management.
