Momentive Performance Materials USA LLC seeks a Lead Engineer, Specialty Fluids for its Tarrytown, New York location.

Responsibilities: Design and develop new silicone-based products and formulations for performance additives in Agricultural formulations. Work with other engineers to review new product development in Agriculture materials and make recommendations for material selection by evaluating and testing raw materials using silicone polymers and copolymers as agricultural adjuvants. Plan and implement lab operations for developing material that meets product specification and performance standards. Utilize a range of different analytical techniques to characterize new products and evaluate their properties/applications, including: Equilibrium and Dynamic Surface Tension (DST), Gas and liquid chromatography (GC and HPLC), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), product stability assessment through a near-infrared technique (Turbiscan), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Vibrational Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and particle size analysis through dynamic light scattering (DLS). Analyze lab test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions. Research the use of silicones in new areas of application such as protective coatings for seed treatment or performance additives for fertilizers. Provide technical expertise to new product development efforts. Write technical reports to document new developments and implement with market segment teams. Review the patent landscape for new technologies and write invention disclosures for intellectual protection when applicable. Assist in the design and conduction of field trials for new products validation. Utilize growth chambers and spray booths for plants treatment and testing with new silicone adjuvants. Translate market needs through lab scale preparations and assist with scale-up and commercialization. Domestic and international travel up to 10% of time is required.

Education/Experience: Master's degree or foreign equivalent in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry or related scientific field and three (3) years experience as a materials engineer, chemist, chemical engineer or in a related scientific research role in chemical industry.

Special Requirements: Execution of broad scope chemical new product development programs; Synthesis of silicon-based small molecules and polymeric materials; characterization of silicon-based materials by GC, HPLC, IR, UV-Vis and NMR; formulation and stabilization of silicone macro- and microemulsions; experience designing, conducting and analyzing agricultural field trials to assess performance of adjuvants; working knowledge of equilibrium and dynamic surface tension measurement techniques; development of robust application testing methods; polymer scale-up and manufacturing experience; and documenting and presenting technical results and training materials, including technical reports, patent applications and peer-reviewed journals.
