Staff Biostatistician Job Description

Position overview:

Provides statistical and data analysis expertise, independently and in collaboration with project scientists and engineers, for the development of statistical methodologies, application tools/programs, and protocols/reports, for product development and validation, clinical and non-clinical studies. Prepares written reports and other technical documents and procedures pertaining to statistical methods. Provides statistical consulting and training.


• Analyze data, make conclusions regarding the acceptability of products versus specifications and make recommendations to manager and project teams.

• Write protocols and reports requiring unique statistical treatment of data for clinical and non-clinical evaluations.

• Develop and extend statistical methodologies and application tools to solve complex problems.

• Consult with scientists on experimental designs and analysis during product development and for clinical study designs.

• Author statistical analysis plans and statistical analysis reports for clinical and non-evaluations.

Review reports for statistical content.

Specific qualifications required:

• PhD or MS degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience, preferably in the R&D and clinical trials environment.

• Experience in the diagnostics business is critical. Will consider medical device or biotechnology industries, as well.

• Understanding of clinical laboratory testing and technology is a plus.

• Ability to understand scientific questions and formulate statistical and data-analytic methods to provide solutions to novel problems.

• Sound knowledge of statistical methodologies such as analysis of variance, regression, experimental design and contingency tables.

• Proficiency in SAS.

• Ability to work independently and in project teams.

• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken
