Job Description

**POSITION TITLE:** Research Scientist

The Chuang Lab at JAX-GM is seeking a research scientist to join our projects in cancer genomics and evolution. We are a computational lab that works closely with multiple experimental collaborators to study tumor evolution and resistance to therapy. We compare treated and untreated samples through analysis of sequencing data (exome, RNA-seq, single cell, targeted sequencing, etc.). Our projects take advantage of JAX's strengths in patient-derived xenografts, a powerful model system in which human tumors are engrafted and studied in immunocompromised mice. JAX has developed >400 such tumors, which we are characterizing extensively via genomics and clinical perturbations at an institutional level.

New team members will have unique opportunities to investigate mechanisms of cancer from these types of data, to design new studies, and to take advantage of cloud computing approaches for large scale data analysis. Particular areas of emphasis include gastric cancer, breast cancer, and immunotherapy. The candidate should have prior expertise in molecular evolution and/or cancer genomics, as well as experience in computational data analysis. Strong publication and writing experience is mandatory, as the candidate will devote significant effort to project development and manuscript preparation. This is a senior position within the Chuang lab, and candidates with substantial prior experience are encouraged to apply. We will provide a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications.

Interested applicants should submit a research statement along with a CV. More information about the lab is available at ****

* Basic research in cancer genomics (40%)
* Data interpretation and manuscript writing (30%)
* Project and grant development (20%)
* Mentoring of junior lab members (10%)

* PhD
* Expertise in molecular evolution and/or cancer genomics
* Substantial writing experience (at least 2 first author publications).

JAX began in 1929 with a small group of scientists dedicated to the emerging field of genetics. We now have over 1700 scientists, technicians, and support staff, including over 50 Principle Investigators in five primary disease areas: cancer, reproductive biology, immunology, metabolic processes and neuroscience. Our fundamental contributions to biomedical research include cancer genetics and establishing the mouse as the premier research animal model.
