Purpose of Position: (Summarize overall purpose of job.)

The basic function of this position is to ensure accurate and timely layout of all products for Connecticut Media Group, using SCS Layout 8000. This employee is also responsible for creating and maintaining weekly edition final status reports for all publications. These weekly reports must be concise and will provide exact detail of total page count, editorial space by section and product. This position is responsible for ensuring all pages process from Layout 8000 into editorial's content management system, CCI Newsgate. The incumbent must be even tempered and able to work at a fast pace. Lastly, this position may also be required to work weekends, nights and/or holidays.

Essential Job Functions:

• Layout and design all daily and weekly publications within the allotted timeframe, following all procedures and guidelines.
• Notify appropriate personnel, more specifically sales and editorial when problems arise. Notify appropriate personnel to discuss foreseeable concerns regarding color, section size, etc.
• Request or be able to determine classified estimate using Mactive PGL system.
• Edit existing pages to accommodate late ads, within reason.
• Adhere to ad/news ratio whenever possible.
• Work closely with the newsroom, business office, and sales personnel to minimize errors or correct ad placement concerns.
• Review policy and procedure manuals annually.
• Accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Customer Service:

?? Work with sales department to determine ad placement preference. Accommodate requests as permissible to create a complementary of Editorial to Advertising space design.

?? Professionally answer phones and screen calls to identify customer needs and research questions. Follow up with appropriate personnel as needed.

?? Establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.

Education, Training and Experience:

Vocational training with a minimum of 3 years experience in similar job experience preferred. Exceptions to these requirements may be considered based on exemplary skills, training, and record of success. Ability to multitask is a top priority along with excellent communication skills and attention to detail is necessary to be successful.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:


• Provide technical support (when possible) to Editorial staff. Must be well versed in CCI Newsgate to the point of assisting personnel with problems or corrections via telephone.
• Possess working knowledge of all department equipment.
• Possess working knowledge and some troubleshooting of Layout 8000 and Microsoft Office.
• Must be a self-starter and ability to adhere to deadlines.

Must be able to proficiently operate the following:

• Computer - PC
• Photocopier
• Fax
