Climate, Control & Security (CCS), a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), is seeking a senior Computational Methods Engineer as part of the Model Based Methods & Tools organization with responsibility to identify and implement advanced computational engineering methods for optimization and simulation tools to improve engineering products and development processes within CCS. The successful candidate will develop and apply new tools and improve existing tools and ensure that numerical tools are reliable and efficient.

Specific responsibilities for this position will be:

* Identify, implement, and demonstrate appropriate numerical methods to ensure reliable and efficient convergence of numerical models across a variety of business needs. This includes model computation, solvers, and initialization.

* Develop appropriate optimization formulations and identify and implement advanced optimization algorithms for improved products and engineering processes.

* Provide support to engineering teams in the area of optimization, computational methods and system analysis tools. This includes development, delivery, and support of new workflows, problem formulations, and models.

* Demonstrate knowledge of state of the art numerical solvers and modeling tools for simulation and optimization of both steady-state and dynamic models.

* Provide guidelines for model development and implement diagnostic tools to troubleshoot models from a numerical standpoint and ensure reliable, fast convergence

Qualifications Required Technical Skills/Education:

* Experience in steady-state and dynamic modeling and numerical computations for large, nonlinear systems

* Domain knowledge in HVAC/R systems

* 3-5+ years of relevant experience in development and application of numerical optimization and simulation methods for nonlinear systems

* Expertise in numerical simulation and optimization techniques for systems of nonlinear differential algebraic equations is desired, including knowledge of modern solvers and debugging convergence problems.

* Software programming skills, including knowledge of current programming languages (e.g. C++, Python)

* Debugging and problem solving capability

Required Leadership Skills:

* Proven deliverable of quality products (preferable use of quality tools/methods) to customer

* Experience with reviewing the work of others and defining standard specifications and test plans

* Experience with the creation and delivery of software, projects, and training modules

* Fluent English (both written and spoken), solid technical writing, presentation and communication skills.

Preferred Technical Skills/Education:

* Experience with current software languages (e.g. C++, Python, MATLAB) and development processes/tools (e.g. agile, source code control, IDE)

* Experience with modeling languages (e.g. Modelica, GAMS), and modern solver/optimization packages (e.g. SUNDIALS KINSOL, Trilinos, IPOPT, etc.)

* Tool and standard work development Knowledge/Experience

* Use and familiarity of the Eclipse Modeling Framework

This candidate must be highly motivated, organized, self-driven, able to function in a global team environment (USA, China, India, and Europe) and demonstrate problem solving and analytical thinking skills.

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required. Education MS or PhD in Applied/Engineering Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, or Physics with at least 5 years of experience
