Technician, Industrial Laser Manufacturing
Summary Regular employee. 40 hours per week, paid hourly. Monday through Friday - 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Overtime when required to meet deadlines is paid at 1-1/2 time with supervisor approval. Requires working with and around high-powered lasers and wearing laser goggles. Must be able to move up to 20 pounds. MAJOR JOB TASKS Troubleshooting of production line failures and customer returns (RMAs). Basic troubleshooting of equipment or test software (in Laser Test Area). Document troubleshooting findings in ERP System. Review findings with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Supervisor & Cell Leads as needed. Work with fiber optic and free-space optical components. Operate fiber fusion splicers, fiber re-coaters, fiber cleavers, optical spectrum analyzers, laser beam analyzers, optical power meters, power supplies, photo detectors and oscilloscopes. Review new product releases with Manufacturing Engineering and Cell Leads prior to release to Laser Production. Perform tests, and record data for Engineering as needed. Work is approximately divided between Production (85%) and Research & Development (15%), subject to change due to business needs. Other duties as business needs required. EDUCATION Technical Associates degree or Certificate in Laser Electro Optics or related discipline is preferred. Applicants with 5 years of closely related experience will be considered. EXPERIENCE 1+ years of Technician-level experience in opto-mechanical or electronics assembly operations required. Applicants with 5+ years of fiber optic assembly will also be considered. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Able to read optical and electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, engineering plans, and specifications required. Experience with hand tools and power tools, soldering equipment, and electrical meters required. Knowledge of fiber optic and laser components preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel) required. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Team-oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
