Pratt & Whitney, a recognized leading producer of the world's most advanced commercial and military turbine engines, is seeking a manufacturing engineering professional to join Hot Section Module Center South's manufacturing engineering organization. The Grind Process Manager will support turbine airfoil parts manufacturing at Pratt & Whitney East Hartford. Each of our high pressure turbine airfoils has many features that are ground and subsequently finished by vibratory or robotic processes.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Develop & implement grinding, EDM, deburring, and other special processes including automation on high temperature turbine airfoil components including

Manage a team of manufacturing engineers specializing in grinding, plunge EDM, robotic programming, deburring, brushing, polishing and peening.

Review part models and preliminary design versus design standards, provide manufacturing producability input to designs and part family process standards

Provide input for manufacturing release reviews for Engineering Changes

Provide manufacturing process options, propose trade studies, evaluate manufacturing process maturity, and identify new drilling technologies

Review process yields and rates, and make suggestions for improvement

Help create, maintain, & approve shop floor work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements.)

Implementation of new capital equipment from specification and ordering through delivery, installation and release to production.

Identify & implement shop floor process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent quality turn backs / escapes and reduce overall product costs.

Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.

Significant interaction with the hourly work force, tool designers, quality assurance, integrated product teams, systems designers, and Information Systems are typical of the position.


Successful candidates must have strong machining & manufacturing engineering background and shop operations experience, with a minimum of 10 years of experience.

Technical expertise in grind processing for manufacturing of jet engine components.

Knowledge of inspection methods, process controls, understanding of Lean or Six Sigma tools.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required

Understanding of CLM, CMM, NC and robotic programming is a plus.


College degree required with 10+ years of experience.

Preference: Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
