* Information Technology & Software Engineering High School


The Magnet Resource Teacher (MRT) position at the Interdistrict Magnet High School will have a critical role in assisting the school administration in the continuing development of magnet curriculum with classroom teachers. The MRT will be an expert in STEM and aid teachers in the process to properly infuse the magnet theme in core instruction through project/challenge based instructional delivery. In addition, this key role assists to facilitate adherence to, and associated documentation aligned with the Federal Magnet School Assistance Program grant language to meet both systemic and thematic objectives.


* The Magnet Resource Teacher will work closely with the assistant principal and principal in leading the initiatives to support all of the school- based activities specified in the Federal Magnet School Assistance Program.

* In concert with and under the assistant principal's direction, communicate the school vision, built on the magnet theme, and build broad support with the school staff and parents to establish systems to sustain a culture of continuous improvement.

* Assist in the development, with teachers and university partners, of the magnet theme curricula and courses. Support and facilitate the curriculum alignment process.

* Provide professional development and resources to school staff, through workshops, demonstration lessons in magnet theme areas, coaching, modeling and peer to peer assistance, in order to facilitate implementation of the new magnet curricula.

* Facilitate PLCs and collaborative planning time.

* Demonstrate strategies for meeting the needs of students with a wide range of abilities.

* Participate in the development and implementation of recruitment plans.

* Assist the assistant principal in monitoring the fidelity of implementation of the magnet program in the school. In concert with the project director, principal and evaluator, participate in modifying and improving activities.

* Serve as a member of the school's Instructional Leadership Team by assisting in the development and implementation of action plans that improve instructional rigor, develop teacher leaders and create magnet-based collaborative learning structures within the PBL model incorporating thematic content that services the STEM mission.

* Serve as an instructional coach, in accordance with the applicable guidelines established by the district, primarily for new and developing teachers.

* Assist in the administration of assessments within the school.

* Support teacher teams in using assessment data to drive instruction, by identifying strengths and weaknesses in their practice. Provide technical assistance to help translate team conversations around assessment data into concrete changes in instructional practices.

* Assist in administering the elements of the curricular program, including inventory, book distribution/collection and orientation.

* Develop and disseminate brochures, newsletters and other communication vehicles related to educational initiatives within the school.

* Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal, assistant principal and FMSAP Project Director inclusive of required MSAP documentation processes.


* Connecticut State teaching certification in Mathematics (029)

* Grant experience and knowledge of compliance documentation.

* Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience at the high school level

* Extensive knowledge of and expertise with curriculum development in the specific STEM magnet theme area

* Experience in desegregation related programs and/or magnet schools.

* Experience in the use of technology, scientific inquiry, project based learning and engineering design in the classroom.

* Experience in the evaluation of student academic performance

* Experience working with diverse student populations in an urban setting

* Proven ability in supporting teachers in developing their practice and ability to handle staff training responsibilities

* Experience as a Peer Observer or willingness to be trained and qualify as a Peer Observer

* Passion and commitment for school level capacity building

* Ability to motivate others in a respectful , collegial and professional manner

* Enthusiasm about being a part of team process and learning

* Demonstrated leadership abilities, including evidence of the flexibility and creative thinking needed to be a teacher leader.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Demonstrated organizational and management skills

* Experience building constructive and effective interpersonal relationships with administrators, staff, parents, students and community.

* Demonstrated ability to connect specific Math concepts to computer technologies and/or programming.

* Ability to craft and document technical (hardware and software) thematic connections in core subject area curricula.

* Experience with robotics/Arduino with awareness of hardware and software interfaces.

* Computer Programming skills to include knowledge of Java, JavaScript, and C++.

* Exemplary Computer software application experience using the MS office suite, Adobe, Gimp and other Image/video editing software packages.

This position is an assignment for one school year.
