Lambda Legal seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Communications
Officer (CCO) to lead its communications effort. This position will
work in lockstep with Lambda Legal's new Chief Executive Officer to
oversee all aspects of the organization's internal and external
communications across multiple channels, including digital
communications. In addition to leading the Communications
Department, the CCO will be an ambassador who will shape and
communicate the story of Lambda's work and history, explain the
impact of the organization's efforts, and be a prominent voice for
equality in the LGBT community.

Based in New York, this position is responsible for leading a
12+ person national team. The CCO will serve on the Senior
Leadership Team, working in tandem with all departments of the
organization to develop a strategic vision for how Lambda
communicates across all platforms. Based on this vision, the CCO
will create, implement, and manage an integrated communications
strategy - incorporating compelling messaging, media and influencer
relations, as well as content development - that places Lambda
Legal's work squarely in the center of the national conversation
about LGBT equality.

Lambda Legal is a national nonprofit organization committed to
achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender people and those with HIV through impact
litigation, education, and public policy work. Founded in 1973 and
headquartered in New York City, Lambda Legal operates regional
offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The CCO must be able to articulate a vision of Lambda Legal's
leadership for LGBT and HIV-positive people nationwide, as well as
a strategy for implementing that vision.
The CCO must possess
the following:

Strategic Communications Expertise

The CCO should have an acute understanding of how communications
can be used to elevate the work of a national organization, with a
track record for setting and implementing a robust communications
plan to accomplish that goal. Strong candidates will demonstrate
skill at developing and honing an organizational voice that informs
all press materials, digital content, and other internal and
external communications. The CCO should have relationships with
top-tier journalists, have an ability to grow audiences through web
content and social media, and possess a history of achieving
high-impact press placements.

Collaborative Approach

The CCO must be able to foster a culture of excellence and
collaboration among a large, diverse team in a fast-moving
environment, including ongoing coaching and mentoring of team
members. This position will set objectives and priorities across
the team and develop strong, collaborative relationships with the
full staff, allies and partner organizations.

Dynamic Writing and Messaging Skills

With demonstrated capabilities for message discipline and for
narrative communications, the CCO must be able to keep a large and
diverse organization on-message across all platforms, and to ensure
that Lambda is telling stories about its clients and work in a
clear, direct and engaging way.

Senior Leadership Experience

As an integral part of Lambda's leadership team, the CCO is
expected to work closely with the CEO and other department leads to
participate in organizational strategic planning and major
initiatives across teams.

Strong Spokesperson Qualities

The CCO will be an ambassador for Lambda before a variety of
audiences, including constituents, donors, board members, and
external partners. The CCO should be comfortable serving as the
voice of an organization, with experience acting as a media

Ideal candidates will have at least 10 years of experience,
including experience in a senior management role directing a
national strategic communications program. Applicants must have a
commitment to the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals,
transgender and people living with HIV.

Salary is commensurate with experience within the guidelines of
Lambda Legal's scale. The position comes with excellent benefits
