Job Description:

R&D Engineer The candidate will be involved in all aspects of research and development including product design & prototyping, product testing and process development. Essential Function/Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions/duties satisfactorily. Lead the research needed for a variety of R&D projects and create research reports with key findings Develop test methods to accurately evaluate expected product performance under different conditions and in different applications Occasionally test thermoformed plastic products for a variety of criteria like opening force, part weight, leak resistance etc. Develop and maintain data for specific test results Prepare and provide statistical reports on quality and process as needed Use CAD (Solidworks) to design products, tools, QA fixtures and other devices needed for R&D Assist in preparing R&D spec sheets Required knowledge and skills Strong problem solving skills with the ability to use statistics to analyze data Proficient at using common business software applications (e.g. MicroSoft Word, Excel, PowerPointetc.) Fast learning and adaptability skills Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time Individual needs to be very detail oriented Excellent communication skills required Knowledge of manufacturing environment involving plastic processes is a plus CAD software (Solidworks) knowledge is a plus Ability to work in a fast paced, flexible environment Some travel required Product Safety and Quality Follows Product Safety and Quality standards Follows FDA GMP's in regards to food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee Safety Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE) Practices good housekeeping including clutter-free work area and general cleaning; follows FDA product safety standards, follows IPC product defense standards and complies with all SQF requirements Ensures lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained The list below represents the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Education and/or Experience - Requires Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent. Ability to manage multiple projects and establish priorities. The ability to work a flexible schedule. Requires 5 years or more relevant engineering experience. Previous experience with plastic parts or thermoforming is preferred. Language Skills - English speaking. The ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports. The ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Mathematical Skills - Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, and differential equations and statistical theory. Six Sigma training is preferred. Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
