SURGICAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - Opportunity The James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a full-time Surgical Physician Assistant for our Orthopaedic Surgical Clinical Practice. As an essential member of our orthopaedic interdisciplinary team, you will support a wide range of orthopaedic surgical and medical care for our diverse patient population. You will complete accurate patient histories and examinations, perform first or second assist duties in orthopaedic surgery, render emergency care, diagnose and treat urgent care problems, treat and provide care for acute injuries/accidents under supervision of orthopaedic surgeons and residents. You will round on and manage patients on the floor and assist with pre-op, peri-op and post-op patients, evaluate and order necessary labs and imaging studies, develop and implement treatment plans, be responsible for admissions under the supervising attending and orthopaedic residents, chart entries on patient interactions and recording progress notes, consulting with attending and residents for transfer of patients, follow-up and communicate with patients after discharge, provide treatment by administering and prescribing various medications and transfusions, initiate CPR in absence of code team, evaluate and clarifies clinical conditions, ensure adherence to customer service standards, talk with family and/or visitors, dictate discharge summaries, and manage the database and performance of quality assurance.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited PA Training Program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations and a Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA training program PA program, current NYS licensure, BLS/ACLS certification and full and current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) board certification are required. Also, the candidate must have current Infection Control Certification and have completed a child abuse recognition course. The PA must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. It is essential that the candidate possess strong clinical skills. U.S. Citizenship and English Language Proficiency are required. Tour of duty - 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
