Job description _Position SummaryThe Web Application Developer / Programmer is responsible for the continued improvement, management and maintenance of the systems and programs that support the Academy of Management's 10,000-attendee annual conference. These systems include conference submission and reviewer systems, logistics systems, and others. Under the direction of the Technical Solutions Architect, this position analyzes business needs, designs, programs, installs, and tests complex applications, provides ongoing maintenance, and enhances system performance and functionality. As the system expert, the Web Application Developer / Programmer is responsible for the construction and ongoing implementation of system enhancements from concept to finish, including participation in redevelopment / replacement activities for the next generation of the systems soon underway. The Web Application Developer / Programmer trains and supports users, working collaboratively with dozens of individuals annually who volunteer to coordinate the content for the annual meeting sessions. The Web Application Developer / Programmer writes system documentation, custom reports and data exports, and new front-end and back end code. Key Responsibilities:• Systems Improvement, Management, and Maintenance• Support annual cycle of activities involving the preparation of meeting systems.• Write custom statistical and analytical reports and data exports.• Responsible for maintenance including system modifications, upgrades, etc.• Execution of Technology Projects• With guidance from the Technical Solutions Architect as needed, coordinate efforts with staff and volunteers to define business requirements.• With guidance from the Technical Solutions Architect as needed, identify best technical solutions for business needs, including commercially available products or develop alternative solutions.• Develop and communicate status updates.• Accountable for project deliverables, deadlines, and quality.• Applications Development• Read other programmer's code for the purpose of modifying existing files and functionality.• Collect required information from staff and volunteers to create requested programs or programming enhancements.• Create / revise web pages and back end applications to support initiatives.• With guidance from the Technical Solutions Architect as needed, create or modify interactive databases to support applications.• Test and debug applications.• Write technical documentation for applications; update documentation as needed.• User Support and Training• Write and maintain user documentation.• Train and support users.• Provide technical support. Skills/Abilities and Experience Requirements:• 3 years formal programming experience with ASP.NET, Classic ASP, and VB.Net required. • Expertise and hands on experience with Web Applications and programming languages including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. • Expertise with relational database systems including database development and querying with: 1. SQL Server 2. Access 3. Excel • Functional knowledge or hands on design experience with Web Services (REST, SOAP, etc.) is a plus.• Ability to understand technical manuals, online technical documentation, software specifications, and systems software operations. • Proven experience in learning and using new technologies.• Ability to conduct problem analysis / resolution.• Ability to troubleshoot and research problems independently as well as part of a team.• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with the ability to work in a team-oriented, deadline driven environment. Educational Experience• Bachelor's degree in applicable field: computer science, information technology, or information systems preferred.
