We’re OperationsInc, a human resources consulting firm located in Norwalk, CT. A client of ours, a NYC based, independent supplier of marine fuels, is seeking a Senior Accountant to add to their world- renowned organization. We have been retained to assist them in their efforts to secure the most qualified candidate

The Role

This position will be play an important role in the day to day operations of the accounting department including, but not limited to, cash flow, inventory reconciliation, tax & compliance as well as all month-end close responsibilities. Positon reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • General Accounting (QuickBooks)
    a. Entering invoices, receipts, bills, payments, credit memos, checks
    b. Reconciling accounts (daily & monthly) -- banks, credit cards, petty cash
    c. Preparing and entering accruals for month-end tax liabilities
     
  • Cash Flow & Trade Payables
    a. Monitor the daily cash requirements for the company
    b. Preparing daily bank instructions for revolving line of credit
    c. Scheduling wire transfers for payment of trade-related payables
     
  • Inventory Reconciliation
    a. Entering bills (purchases), and inventory transfers/blends
    b. Cross referencing inventory from QB, Aspect (Trading system), and Terminal reports
    c. Costing of sales
     
  • Invoicing
    a. Oversee the junior accountant with invoicing (bunkering & tug) and receivables to ensure all sales are captured and properly recorded
    b. Invoicing bulk cargoes, Commercial & Industry sales, intercompany sales, and rebills
     
  • Credit Applications
    a. Sending out credit applications to new customers, forwarding for credit approval and limit, and notifying customer
    b. Filling out credit references and new supplier/customer applications and registrations
     
  • Tax & Compliance
    a. Monitoring state by state license renewals and license requirements
    b. Prepping, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and excise tax, and reporting fees for federal and state
    c. Research on tax issues and filings, and correspondence with federal and state tax/revenue departments
    d. Financial statement prep for month, quarter, and year-end filing requirements

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Accounting or related field, required
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel, required
  • 5-8 years General Accounting experience, necessary
  • Experience in the Oil Industry, helpful
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to handle multiple projects while also meeting deadlines
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Must be a detail oriented self-starter
